Top 3 Favorite FREE Workout Apps

Ahh the 80’s they brought us so many good things. Well, me for starters, 😉 but also Slap-bracelets, Gummi Bears, epic Synthesizer music, AND the fitness craze.  Thanks to Jane Fonda and her Leg Warmers, individuals too shy for the gym could now work out in the comfort of their living rooms.

Fast forward 30 years. We now have the option to workout just about anywhere thanks to our Smartphones.

This year, if one of your goals for your No Small Life is to get healthy, you’re not alone. The #1 Resolution every year is to get in shape/lose weight/exercise more. So today I’m here to help with that most popular of resolutions. A while back, I showed you my Top 3 Coupon & Shopping Apps. And today I thought I’d feature my Favorite Workout Apps.

The great thing about these Apps is that they are:

1. FREE

2. They each contains tons, we’re talking in the hundreds, of workouts

3. They can go with you anywhere! And since they’re mobile, they’re an excellent option for sticking with an exercise routine while you’re traveling. And if your temperature gauge is reading 15 degrees like mine is right now, doesn’t a vacation sound amazing???

So let’s get started.

First up is the Nike Training App.

This was my 1st download in the land of workout apps and it did not disappoint. This app lets you pick your goal, your level and your length of workout.

They range from 7-45 min. What I also love about this app is the preview option to review all the moves before you commit to the workout. It will also sync to a playlist on your phone if you tell it to 🙂

Each workout will walk you through with voice prompts, but there are also demos available in both still and video.

Next up is Workout Trainer. JZWdc04HPNryqhHKWi_2ufsk3eDQ17an3l84EtzZkb1TvHwr6ksA3vTgDif3dNc2t5HL=w300

Now, Workout Trainer is a Free App with loads of free workouts. However, you can upgrade, within the same App, to Workout Trainer Pro ($1.67/month) or Workout Trainer Pro + ($3.33/month) to have access to all of their workouts, forums, and to make the app totally ad free. Full Disclosure, I just use the Free one 🙂

This app is very easy to navigate. I love the “Filter” option which lets you look at workouts based on time, target area, equipment needed and level of difficulty. You can also you the “Browse” option to look through everything from Fitness Tests to Stretching. My favorites are their Ab and Core workouts. Ooo, and this one also syncs to the playlist of your choice 🙂 Very important stuff.

Last but not least is PopSugar Active.

PopSugar lets you choose your type of workout: Strength, Running, Yoga, or Cardio and then your focus within that workout.

Say you’re wanting to squeeze in a 15 min arm workout or you’re looking to shake up your elliptical routine, it’s got you covered. This app has full length videos (my favorite) as well as printable charts and guides depending on what you’re looking for.

In my opinion, these smartphone apps are a no brainer. You all know I love my Workout DVDs, but those cost money 😀 If you’re wanting to get in shape, but have no budget, you will love these apps.

If you’re already in the habit of working out but looking for a way to shake up your fitness routine, you’ll love these apps. This morning I did a quick 10 min on the treadmill followed by “Total Body Scupting” from the Nike Training App. And let me tell ya, Booty. Kicked.

And to stay safe and healthy, here’s a post I did to help keep you from injury or recover from one faster.

Hope this helps you in your New Year Health & Fitness endeavors! Do you have any favorite workout apps?

Until next time,

Meg

PS…For you’re throwback viewing pleasure, I bring to you the  80’s workout this pre-teen heart secretly always wanted.  Sadly, weighted bracelets we’re not my destiny.
