One of my favorite quotes by Andy Stanley says, “Do for one what you wish you could do for all.” Doesn’t that just free you up? I love the concept. Changing one No Small Life at a time. It empowers our empathy to put the gloves on and get in there with someone deeply, instead of getting overwhelmed by a massive need and looking away.
“Do for one what you wish you could do for all.”
BUT what if there was a way to give to one and impact all? And what if there was a way you could do that in your sleep?
Curious? Tell me about it! I was too 😉
Last week Jennie Allen sent out a simple facebook post that grabbed my attention and would not let go. Literally moments later, Chris called to me from the other room, “Babe, have you seen this?” Immediately, I knew what he was talking about and knew that we had to get involved.
World renowned photographer Jeremy Cowart has stayed in hotels all around the globe; photographing some incredible places and some very famous faces. Jeremy Cowart is also a Christian. And upon one of his many hotel stays, one of those “random-can’t-let-it-go-kind-of-God-ideas” popped in his mind.
“What if everything in this hotel was connected to a cause or a need?”
Could a simple shift like that change the world? Imagine not just a hotel, but a global hotel chain, where every time you book a room:
- A child gets sponsored.
- The internet fee fights human trafficking.
- Every product (soap, shampoo, linens, furniture, curated art, specialty products) is purchased from partners who are making a difference.
In the lobby, a clean water well symbolizes the flow of hope and life to everyone and everything connected to the hotel.
By choosing this hotel, you touch a hundred lives or more locally and internationally. You literally change the world in your sleep.” (source)
And with that, the concept for The Purpose Hotel was born. Linking arms with globally recognized organizations such as Compassion, Fashion.Able, IJM, The Giving Keys and many others, The Purpose Hotel is seeking to put together an incredible experience where each night’s stay changes the world.
Jeremy told the Huffington Post, “Every other hotel has an inward mentality,” he explains. “They say, ‘Stay with us. We’re the best, the coolest, the cheapest, or the most luxurious.’ They’re all about themselves” but with Purpose Hotel, our message is “Stay with us because everything you touch, see, and experience is impacting people, non-profits, and causes all over the world.” He follows that up with another important note, “Oh, and we’re also cool, relaxing, and creative, but it’s about others first.”
They are currently engaged in a Kickstarter campaign where people can get involved with this incredible vision for as little as a $1. They offer many different gifts and incentives for financially contributing, but the one that seems to be appealing to most is at the co-founder level ($75), you can send in a picture of your family that will not only decorate the walls of the first Nashville hotel, but of all future hotels to come.
We’re definitely getting involved and just couldn’t keep such a beautiful vision to ourselves.
We all want to change the world and leave it a better place than when we found it. What if we could give to one and make a global impact? What if we could change the world in our sleep?
Until next time,
Meg
