At the Start of every season, the Fashion World unites to tell you how insufficient your current closet truly is. Magazine covers are strewn with headlines declaring:
“The TOP 10 things you MUST HAVE in your closet,”
“Your 5 BEST purchases this fall,”
“The greatest things you could EVER put on your body to change your life, your world, your destiny.”
So what’s a girl to do when your budget is telling you one thing and the fashion magazines are telling you another?
Well, for starters we never want people who don’t even know us making our lives feel small for the sake of fashion…or lack there of, wherever you may fall on the spectrum.
BUT, I’m sure you also want to feel cute, confident and up to date as you venture into this new season, right?
Fall will always feel like the beginning of a new year to me. I think that’s what going to school for the majority of our formative years will do to us. #SeptemberIsTheNewJanuary
It’s (almost) a new season, the air is beginning to shift and it’s the perfect time to update that closet just a little bit. Well kids, I’m here to help. Here are some budget friendly finds for your No Small Life. I guarantee, they’re not the “Must Have’s.” They will not change your life, but man, if you could feel cute and confident for under $50? Why not give them a shot? You deserve to decorate your cute little No Small Life up and feel confident and ready to “tackle” (subtle Football shout out to my Mr.-read more about that here!) whatever this season holds for you. Without further adieu, Here we go…
Floppy Hats:
Floppy Hats aren’t a brand new trend per-say but with the 70’s boho trend on the rise this season, these perfect bad-hair-day-cover-ups are popping up everywhere from Target to the Loft. Here are a couple different options I’m leaning towards.
Swell
Old Navy
Dorothy Perkins
Pinterest your heart out with this trend. It goes with SO much more than you would expect. I’m picturing chambray shirt tucked perfectly into our next fall trend…
Flare Leg Denim:
It’s baaaaccckkk. No worries, pretty much ALL THE JEANS are in style right now. Skinny, Boyfriend, Distressed, Girlfriend, and they’re sometimes hard-to-pull-off-cousin, High-Waisted.
BUT Flare and Wide-Leg are definitely having a moment. Here’s a pair from Express* sporting some fun front pockets. These look especially great with a tucked in blouse and a chunky heal. Yep, those are back too. I know, I don’t know what year it is either.
Also hanging out in the 70’s are Earth Tones, Flowy Blouses, and let’s not forget Fringe & said Chunky Heels.
Fringe:
This is a trend you could either merely dabble in or throw caution to the wind and jump in full force:
Dabble:
Arwyn Fringe Tote from Charming Charlies. As you can tell, I saw this in person. It’s good.
Stick your foot in the water with this saddle crossbody bag from Kohls
Or these SUPER FUN heels from DSW
Or Jump all the way in while still looking like you live in this decade, with a fringe skirt from Neiman Marcus Last Call
There is also fringe on just about every blanket sweater/poncho/ cardigan around, but my husband, not the biggest fan of the blanket sweater/poncho/cardigan, so that’s one trend I will be leaving on the shelf ;)…probably.
Chunky Heels definitely have one foot in the 70’s, one foot in the 60’s (which still works because Mod and Geometrics are still going strong) and of course, the 90’s and early 2000’s. If only I had hung onto all my old shoes from college…highschool…Kindergarden 😀
Here’s a little more current spin on the trend.
Try these suede pumps for under $30.
This shape is so popular, Old Navy even came out with a their own take on it in Violet & Black.
And check out these Awesome shoes by Klub Nico.
The color, the shape, don’t they just scream fall? They’d be great with Wide Leg Denim or with Patterned Tights-which are apparently back in a big way this season.
And just like fall has a smell ie crisp air and Mmmm…Pumpkin Pecan Waffle Candles from Bath & Body...whoops I just drooled on my computer a little.
Fall also has a feel. This season, no big surprise, that feel is Velvet and Suede.
Here’s a few ways you can jump on board with that trend.
Check out this Velvet Blazer from Mango
Or these great Suede A-line(also a HUGE trend) skirts.
THIS one from Nordstrom Rack is $26! AND is also sporting another huge fall Trend: Over-sized Pockets. Why are skirts with pockets so much better?
Nordstrom Rack
Express
Miss Guided
(sorry for the SUPER cropped picture. The model forgot to put a cami on.)
You could definitely wear these with or without tights as the weather changes.
So here you are! Armed and ready to “tackle” (I can’t help it) some of the new Fall Trends without putting a major dent in your budget. For a potential even BIGGER savings, make sure you check out the shopping/coupon apps from this post to get the BEST deal possible.
Fashion can cost a LOT of money, but true style shouldn’t have to. Can’t wait to see how you’ll celebrate your No Small Life through style this season! What trends are you excited to “tackle” (ok seriously, someone stop me.)
Until next time,
Meg
*At the time of this post the Express Jeans were $49. If they are not currently on sale, be patient, and as always, use a coupon. 😉
Love your take on fall fashion!! Thanks for the heads up, as I always feel behind on the trend when I find something in my price range that I like! Now I know what to look for when I’m out!hugs, friend!
Thanks Erin!! So glad it was helpful. I think that fringe purse has your name on it 😉
I am *so* excited to tackle, and hopefully find, some dressy plaid for work or a night on the town. Also, I’m in love with that floppy hat from Swell but I feel like you need perfectly curled long hair to pull it off – thoughts?
Ooo dressy plaid! Are you thinking tops or bottoms? You could pull off a plaid pencil skirt like nobodies business 😉 Isn’t that Swell hat great?! I think you could multiple lengths of hair, but it probably would be best to at least have a little “bend” or curl. Stick straight would look a little too 70’s i think.
awesome finds! I am loving fall fashion so thanks for this ♥
Thanks Tianna! Fall is such a fun time in fashion 🙂 so glad you stopped by!
I haven’t purchased a pair yet but I really like that chunky heals are back in style. They are a lot more comfortable to stand in! I’m on the hunt for an A-Line denim skirt.
They ARE more comfortable! A-line denim skirt, super versatile. Buttons or no buttons? I’ll keep an eye out for ya 😉
I’m intrigued by the buttons but I’m open!
I love your encouragement in the beginning to not feel small by advertising and to do things within your budget! I’m so hopeless with keeping up with fashion, but try to wear things that are pretty timemless (I think…but how would I know when I don’t keep up with fashion! 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the Let’s Get Real Link Up!
Haha, I’m sure you’re doing better than you think. Thank you SO much Angela! That means a lot 🙂 so glad you stopped by 🙂
