Are you jumping in the leaves yet? ‘Cause it’s the 1st day of Fall ya’ll!
That’s right, I said it. I am finally ready to embrace Fall…even though I may be among the last to the party. While everyone else is itching to get into their boots and sweaters I’m usually wearing skirts and sandals right up until the last appropriate minute. But then last year, I had an epiphany…
I used to only think of clothes in terms of “summer” and “winter.” I mean, I live in Michigan after all, Spring and Fall are mere blips on the radar, unfortunately. BUT, my epiphany led me to the conclusion that there truly are some looks you can only wear in the fall. Some things only work well either:
A. above 40 degrees OR
B. before you cover them with a winter coat
(Ever try to hide a fur vest under a wool coat? You look like the little brother from “A Christmas Story.” I should know, I’ve done it. )
So finally, if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em. I’m throwing up my hands in surrender and choosing to embrace fall and all the infinity scarfs that go along with it.
Fall and Fashion are synonymous with each other. Maybe it’s because Fashion Week lands in the beginning of September or maybe it’s because we were conditioned to go school shopping for around 13 years of our lives. (Don’t you miss that?) Whatever the case may be, there’s an excitement in the air when riding boots start replacing peep toes and today we’re going to get in on the excitement! AND True to No Small Life form, we’re doing it on a budget! Because funds or the lack there of are never a reason for you not celebrate your life through style. SO, today we’re talking about how to get in on the No.1 Trend for fall. Are you ready…it’s…
Plaid.
I know, novel right? Try and contain your shock, plaid is in for fall. (She said in a monotone voice.) BUT, before you go assuming you can just dust off your old flannel shirts… this year’s plaid has a twist. Plaid has gone girly. Don’t think those words belong in the same sentence? Here’s proof. Check out these adorable Betsy Johnson finds:
Pretty n Punk Plaid Infinity Scarf in Cream
Pretty n Punk Beanie Hat in Black
BONUS! It’s on sale for $6!
Not quite your speed?
Maybe you’re looking for a little something more 9-5. Try one of these 3 options on for size.
I’m currently LOVING these Plaid Columnist Ankle Pants, and as always remember to check for Express coupons! Just use the ShopStyle App or ask about text coupons.
Express Columnist Berry Plaid Ankle Pant
Feeling more girly? Try this classic pencil skirt. It would look great with those skinny neck tie blouses which are also a huge trend right now.
Maybe you only want to jump on the plaid bandwagon occasionally, say in bad weather? There’s a solution for that:
Western Chief Lumber Boots in Berry Plaid
It would be virtually impossible to be sad while wearing these boots. Confession: I don’t own rain boots. But these are making a strong case for a new addition to my closet.
Looking for just a fresh take on a classic plaid shirt? Try this Express Portifino. With its sheer sleeves, it’s the perfect transition piece into the cooler weather OR great for my buddies in the warmer states looking to still rock your fall.
And if you’re looking for “just a touch” of plaid check out these accessories:
This bag gives a nod to plaid in an oh-so-subtle way

That is such a fun bag!
SO much cuteness here :). I love the beanie and rain boots. I honestly don’t think I have anything plaid right now. I guess I need to do some shopping!
Ooo, well I’d say that beanie MAY be in your future then Candace 😉
Very cute, I have lots of plaid in my closet and I’m always looking for a way to freshen it up, so to speak! 🙂
Gotta love plaid, especially this time of year, thanks Katie! So glad you stopped by 🙂
I haven’t worn plaid in such a long time. I think I’m too old for it…lol. My kids love plaid though.
No way, you could totally rock plaid Erlene 😉
I LOVE fall….It’s the perfect season up here in Ontario, Canada. We practically live in the plaids LOL.
Haha, oh I bet Ontario is beautiful this time of year!
I love your thoughts on fall. Being from Wisconsin, I have similar feelings. Fall is the best time to wear cute jackets, blazers, and such, as it is winter so fast, we don’t get a lot of wear out of them. Great pics! Love the purse, and the smaller version of the blanket scarf. I have the large version, and have never worn it because I feel ‘swallowed’ up in it. Maybe I should cut it in half!
Ooo now there’s an idea! Wisconsin. You DO feel my pain 😉 I went to college in Minneapolis and Fall was like a week long! 🙂
I LOVE that scarf. I’ve been looking for one exactly like it. So does everyone else it seems because it’s sold out!!!!!!!
Oh no! Hope you can find one soon, I just saw another blogger found a similar one at Walmart believe it or not!
Ok I am mad for plaid! Says the girl who named her blog after the pattern! Love these ideas. I have to get those rain boots!!!!
Haha, well absolutely, given your blog name, those boots were MADE for you!
Great round up. I am drooling over the tote and the sneakers! Oh my, they are adorable. Stop by and join our Tuesday Fashion Party Link Up. We’d love to have you join in.
